My number one goal, first and foremost, is to protect our students, both physically and mentally. With the new referendums passed, the district has continued to insure new, upgraded systems are in place to insure this and I plan to continue making sure this is always the case. Secondly, and equally as important, is protecting, nurturing and fostering our students' mental health. I'm happy to see Health and Well- Being as one of our 6 district's strategic priorities developed during the Framework 220. I fully support and applaud the Social Media Awareness & Digital Citizenship Advisory Committee. I started reading the one book the committee is reviewing, The Anxious Generation, How the Great Rewiring of Childhood is Causing an Epidemic of Mental Illness, by Jonathan Haidt. I plan to help execute the district wide process of addressing the nation's social media and digital citizenship concern.
I love that the district is focusing more on individualized, learner pathways so that students can be exposed to multiple educational opportunities. No student is the same and we as a district need to ensure students have the chance to explore many fields of interest. We also need to be innovators thinking of careers of the future.
I am pleased that our community has passed 2 referendums within the past 8 years and I am grateful that the board effectively used those funds to make the necessary improvements that our district buildings so needed. I plan to help ensure the next execution of funds (64K) is effectively utilized for continued safety and a new auditorium.
